I want to be Mrs. Darcy, too.
“Que sera, sera, sera… Whatever will be. The future is not ours to see. Que sera, sera.” This is how the famous 1956 song of The Man Who Knew Too Much starts. Indeed, this is a question we all ask at some point in our lives. What will happen? What is my life going to be about? People say that those who are wise do not ask these questions. Maybe they don’t because they don’t need to know, and maybe that is a happier way of living. But, as they say, curiosity killed the cat. We are curious, we want to know, and most importantly, we are afraid of the unknown. We are afraid of disappointment, of treason, of failure, of becoming our worst nightmare. We picture our future and we want to keep it that way. Well, in theory. So, what is it left for us but to ask, “Que sera, sera”?
It is a good moment in my life to ask this question. I have just finished school. That’s right. Finished. End. No more. That’s it. Caput. Period. I’m receiving my diploma and throwing my funny squared cap into the air in a couple of weeks. And all of us who will be throwing that cap at the same time will be setting our wishes and dreams and goals free into the air to let them fly and become true. Or at least, that’s what we all hope. Nobel Prizes, famous journalists, discoveries, our names printed in history books, worldwide leading corporations with our names, brands, NGO’s under our charge, governments, presidents… Is all of that really important? Or have we just grown up in a society that has taught that is important. Should we all aspire to something simpler? Like a quiet house in the middle of the Alps? Or just a fine living with someone that loves us? Or being happy instead of famous? It doesn’t really matter, you see. For in the end, we are still aspiring for something in live.
Therefore, the only answer that comes to me is, “Whatever will be, will be.” And let God/Budha/Mahoma/Love/Whatever-You-Believe-In grant us the wisdom to take it the best way possible.
One my favorites, for ever and ever <3
